Federal Financial Management Training for the Department of War

The financial management (FM) environment continues to evolve as the Department of War (DoW) works toward its 2028 audit mandate. As a result, agencies face increasing pressure to improve accuracy, transparency, and accountability. Audit expectations continue to rise, regulations are becoming more complex, and success depends on a workforce that is both technically proficient and adequately staffed.

At the same time, persistent skill gaps, increasing complexity, and growing workload demands make it difficult to sustain the required level of performance. Financial managers must balance day-to-day mission support with audit readiness while navigating legacy systems and fragmented data. As a result, agencies need continued workforce development and targeted training that goes beyond maintaining certifications.

Business Management Research Associates, Inc. (BMRA) delivers certification-aligned, NASBA-sponsored training tailored to the needs of DoW and civilian federal financial management professionals.

Engaging with the Financial Management Community

BMRA recently participated in the 2026 SDFM Defense Financial Management Institute (DFMI) in Orlando. The conference brings together practitioners, senior leaders, and policy influencers to exchange ideas, share lessons learned, and stay aligned with evolving priorities across the financial management community.

As a SDFM Gold Sponsor, BMRA engaged directly with financial management professionals from across the DoW. Those conversations reinforced the importance of audit readiness, workforce development, and practical training. They also highlighted the value of helping professionals confidently apply financial management principles in support of the mission.

Supporting DoW Financial Management Workforce Development

  • Competency-based development from foundational to advanced levels
  • Budget formulation and execution
  • Appropriations law and fiscal compliance
  • Financial reporting and accounting
  • Internal controls and audit readiness
  • Continuing Education and Training (CETs) for DoW workforce development
  • Continuing Professional Education (CPE) that meets NASBA standards

BMRA courses are designed to balance certification requirements with practical application. Students return to their organizations ready to apply what they have learned to their everyday work. As a result, agencies strengthen their financial management workforce and better bridge the gap between theory and practice.
