Harnessing AI for Federal Excellence: BMRA’s Tailored Training Solutions
The federal government might be the last place you’d expect to see artificial intelligence given its early stage and security concerns, but anyone on the inside will tell you this isn’t a trend — it’s a full-on transformation. As new tools reshape the way missions are supported, how is Uncle Sam empowering the workforce to adapt? And how can you benefit from BMRA training?
AI City Upon a Hill
With agencies like the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Department of the Interior (DOI), and Veterans Affairs (VA) accounting for 50% of publicly reported AI use cases, Washington is leveraging its resources to redefine efficiency and decision-making at all levels of governance. For example:
- The CIO Council forum announced the Department of Labor (DOL) is using an AI assistant to answer procurement inquiries and other contract FAQs.
- In April, a White House memo mandated that the General Services Administration (GSA) “develop a plan to release publicly available guide(s) to assist the acquisition workforce with the procurement of AI systems…”
Bridging the Talent Gap
A reduction in force doesn’t have to mean a drop in performance. As the pool of contracting professionals (1102s) shrinks, those who remain will begin wearing many hats to assume duties beyond the scope of their roles. Now more than ever, bridging the gap between theory and practice is the ultimate call to action.
- John Ferry, president of AI acquisition supplier Trenchant Analytics, told Federal News Network (FNN) that AI is well suited for contract specialists because machine learning complements the linear and mostly standardized federal acquisition process.
- The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is pushing to use AI in market research and ditch firm-fixed price (FFP) agreements in favor of performance-based contracts.
FFP contracts set a fixed price for products or services regardless of the actual costs incurred by a contractor. OMB, however, is promoting performance-based contracts that tie payment to benchmark achievements. This approach incentivizes contractors to meet or exceed performance standards that can be measured and lead to quality, cost-effective outcomes.
